Post-Exam Trip

Sat. 22 – Sun. 30 October 2005
 
Western Turkey and Greek Islands,
including 3-day cruise

 

This trip combines geology with archaeology and history, all embedded in a unique holiday, including a three-day cruise.

Programme  
Sat. 22 October: Arrival Izmir airport. Transfer to Selcuk and overnight.
Sun. 23 October: Selcuk – Ephesus – Meryemana – Selcuk
Full day visiting Ephesus, with its Greek and Roman ruins. Once a harbour, with an impressive avenue leading from the town to the sea, it is now 7 km inland. Visit to the house of the Virgin Mary, who is supposed to have been brought here by St. John, after the crucifixion of Christ. Overnight Selcuk.
Mon. 24 October: Selcuk – Bodrum
Visits to archeological gems before reaching Bodrum and overnight stay.
Tues. 25 October: Bodrum – Kos
Embarkation Bodrum harbour and sail to Kos. Explore the town, visit the castle or museum, or swim in the thermal baths on the south coast. Overnight on board.
Wed. 26 October: Nyssiros
Visit to the volcanic craters in the centre of this small island. Return Kos, overnight on board.
Thu. 27 October: Kos-Bodrum
After breakfast, depart for Bodrum. Free time and overnight.
Fri. 28 October: Bodrum – Afrodisias – Pamukkale
On the way to Pamukkale, visit to Aphrodisias and its monuments. Overnight Pamukkale.
Sat. 29 October: Pamukkale – Hierapolis – Kusadasi – Selcuk
Visit to the travertine terraces of Pammukale, known as the ‘Cotton Palace’. Natural shelves, pools and stalactites. Above Pammukale lie the ruins of the Roman city of Hieraplolis, destroyed successively by earthquakes. Travel to Selcuk via Kusadasi. Overnight.
Sun. 30 October: Free time until airport transfer. Departure Izmir airport.

The trip includes all meals and accommodation, either in 3-star hotels or on board the chartered boat, basis double room, transport and guide. Not included are flights to and from Izmir, drinks and admission charges at various sites.

Flights to Izmir should be booked to arrive around lunchtime or early afternoon, return flights mid-afternoon.

This trip not only provides an opportunity to see some fabulous geological sites, the antiques sites offer the possibility to see the building stones used by Greeks and Romans. As the programme is negotiable, it may be possible to include one of the hydrothermal plants between Selcuk and Pamukkale.

Price per person (max. 12 participants) Euro 950.-

Supplement single: Euro 85.-

Deadline for bookings: June 2005. For your convenience, payment is probably least complicated and bank transfers cheaper, if the whole amount is paid in one go (bank details on booking form). Euro 100.- will be treated as a deposit and are non-refundable.
