Group photo on the morning of the last day. We are all wearing our trip t-shirts, except the trip leader.

Korretsberg

View of the outcrop. These represent distal facies of the LaacherSee Tephra. Visible are the Lower and Middle LaacherSee Tephra sequences (LLST and MLST). The Upper LaacherSee Tephra is missing.

The group examining the outcrop.

Wingertsberg

View of the actively quarried part of the cone complex. It is thought that this could perhaps be the eruptive centre of the Niedermendiger tephrite lava flow.

View of a more proximal facies of the LaacherSee tephra. Many flow structures are visible.

More of the tephra.

The "autobahn" is the grey layer in the middle of the photo where the hand is pointing. This represents an ashflow which interrupted plinian airfall of pumice.

View of layers from the side.

The group admiring the cross section.

Cross section of the deposit.

Still in Wingertsberg. Looking for hauyne crystals, which are quite common in this part of the quarry (according to our trip leader).

Maria Laach

Looking at an exposure on the rim of Maria Laach maar.

Cleaning off the dust and dirt from Wingertsberg.

View over lake from the water's edge.

CO2 bubbles.
