Kvitskriuprestene in Norway

"The whiteclothed priests" are earth pyramids or earth pillars. The highest pillars are about 6 m. high. The present "priests" are about 200 years old, but the phenomenon as such has probably existed at this place for about 9000 years (As the Inland Ice covering the Ula valley melted away about 9000 years ago).

The
pillars are formed in an old moraine with large bolders serving as caps. Cap
bolders are encircled in red in the reconstruction to the left. Moraine material
not protected by bolder caps has been eroded away.
Leave the E6 about 3km north of Otta (in Gudbrandsdalen) where a toll road is leading north along the Ula river to a little parking (after about 4 km) below the earth pillars. The path up to the pillars is rather steep!
